Record Breaking Attempt on Regent Street
A Guinness World Record attempt has been made on Regent Street by a team of running enthusiasts to raise funds for The National Autistic Society.
Glyn Marston as part of Team Endeavour, attempted to set a Guinness World Record for the greatest distance set in time for a team on a treadmill. Through the challenge the team raised around £1,700 for The National Autistic Society.
The team was supported in their attempt by ASICS. They completed the challenge in a prime and unique location on Regent Street - located in the shop window of successful sports store, Lillywhites. The fun event delighted tourists and shoppers as they watched the challenge.
The event ran from the 14th – 20th April and was launched by Princess Tamara Czartoryski Borbon, who is a known sports enthusiast.
Members of Team Endeavour who accompanied Glyn in the challenge included seven other running enthusiasts. Glyn’s son Liam who has autism also took part and celebrated his 15th birthday during the event.
Speaking before the challenge Glyn said, “I’ve taken part in many running events for the NAS and this will be my second Lillywhites event for charity. I am really grateful to ASICS for all their support and encouragement. This event is extra special for me as my son Liam is taking part, and I’m really pleased that the money I raise will help support thousands of people with autism to live their lives to full potential by enabling the NAS to continue its crucial work.
Andrew Freeman, ASICS UK Marketing Manager said: “ASICS UK has been working with Glyn for several years and we are delighted that he set himself such a challenge for such a worthwhile cause.”
After the Lillywhites challenge, Glyn went on to run this year’s Flora London Marathon for the NAS.
David Richards, Fundraising Director of the NAS spoke of Glyn’s achievements: “It’s fantastic to work with someone with so much energy and relentless commitment to the NAS.”
